Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said Wednesday that his jaw was injured during a violent armed robbery at his home but that he expects to be on the mend “in no time.” “Sunday night some violent cowards broke into our house and threatened my family and my children just to steal some stuff,” Aubameyang tweeted. “They injured my jaw but I will be fine soon, and thank God no one else was physically harmed,” added the 33-year-old.
“The feeling that we are no longer safe in our home is hard to understand and describe, but as a family, we will overcome this and stand stronger than ever.”
At least four men broke into Aubameyang’s home in Castille-De-Filles, near Barcelona. They entered the garden, and threatened the player and his wife with guns and iron bars, and beat him, Spanish media reported on Monday.
According to reports, the thieves made off with the car after forcing the former Gabon international to open the safe and looting the jewelery inside. The incident comes as Aubameyang has been linked with a return to the Premier League following interest from Chelsea.
