Cricket Australia on Wednesday announced the introduction of an IPL-style draft system for selecting foreign players for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League. With BBL 12 scheduled to launch in December, the draft is expected in the next few months. According to the draft system, each team has to select a minimum of two and a maximum of three players.

The Australian Cricket Board said that although the draft was designed to attract the best available foreign players, the overall aim was to give the BBL a more competitive edge in the international market and provide new opportunities for participating teams. To do

The CA added that the draft order would also be determined by a weighted lottery system in which the three teams that did not reach the BBL 11 finals would be the first to enter to determine the first three selections.

There will be four categories and players will be nominated in four rounds – Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze – the ones in the Platinum Group who will be in the highest paying category.
