The Indian women’s doubles pair of Teresa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand won the bronze medal in women’s doubles at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday. The Indian pair of Teresa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Australia’s Wendy Hswan Yu Chen and Grunia Somerville 2-0 21-15, 21-18. Jolly and Gopichand were at their best during the match as they crushed their opponents 21-5 in the first games and didn’t really let the Aussies into a position of advantage.
Watched the second game of the match, the Australian pair fought hard but the Indians were too good for them. Jolly and Gopichand claimed the second game and the bronze medal in straight sets 21-15, 21-18.
Earlier, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth won the Commonwealth Games 2022 men’s singles bronze medal match against Jia Hang Teh 21-15, 21-18.
On Day 11 of the Mayoty Sports event, double Olympic medalists PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and men’s doubles pair of Satok Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will play in the finals of their respective badminton events.
