CWG 2022: Wrestler Deepak Punia Clinches Gold By Beating Pakistan’s Muhammad Inam

Indian grappler Deepak Punia won the gold medal in the men’s freestyle 86 kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. He defeated Muhammad Inam of Pakistan in the Coventry Arena Wrestling Meet B on Friday. Punia won the gold medal match 3-0. Punia won India’s third wrestling gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Indian grappler took a 2-0 lead in the first period and all the pressure was on Punia’s opponent in the last three minutes.

Punia was in good form in this match. In the final three minutes, he managed to hold his own and held his opponent at bay to walk away with the gold.

The Pakistani wrestlers struggled to find their way through Punia’s strong defense and went home without a point.

Earlier, star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won gold for India in the men’s 65kg final against Canada’s Lachlan McNeil.

Anshu Malik had to settle for a silver medal in the women’s 57kg freestyle wrestling after losing to Nigeria’s Odonaiwo Folasad Adekoroye.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 began in Birmingham on July 28 and will continue until August 8.
