Mitchell scored 108 in the first Test at Lord’s and 190 in the second at Trent Bridge.
But despite its impressive run, Test world champions New Zealand lost by five wickets in both matches as the home side took an unbeaten 2-0 lead.
Mitchell’s latest century on Friday came off 213 balls but he was dismissed shortly after, caught by Ben Stokes off spinner Jack Leach.
