Virat Kohli recently suffered a setback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and failed to score a century in international cricket since November 2019. However, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, while supporting the strong return of the star batsman, said that he just needed a big score to regain his confidence. He also said that due to the high standard that Kohli has set for himself with his performances in the past, even a half-century off his bat is considered an all-over innings.

Speaking to reporters in Dubai, Khaleej Times quoted Azharuddin as saying, “What happens to Virat Kohli, even if he scores 50 runs, people say he has failed.”

“I think it happens to every cricketer. Even the best players have gone through these weak times,” he added.

Azharuddin said, “There is nothing wrong with his technique. Sometimes you need a little luck.”

He claimed that if he scores a big score, a big century, aggression and confidence will return.

Kohli has been rested for India’s next five-match T20 International (T20I) series against South Africa and will be in action in the lone Test against England next July.

In IPL 2022, Kohli scored 341 runs in 16 matches with a disappointing strike rate of 115.99. He scored only two half-centuries and failed to score in the playoffs as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were knocked out by Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
