Hosts India have been drawn in Group A for the Under-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which comes with football powerhouses Brazil, Morocco and the USA, for which a draw took place on Friday. The country will host the tournament in three venues from October 11 to 30. A total of 16 teams will take part in the tournament in four groups. The matches of the four-year event will be played in Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai. India will start their campaign against the United States on October 11 (Tuesday) at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Their second match will be against Morocco at the same venue on October 14 (Friday). The home team’s final match of the group stage against Brazil will be played on October 17 (Monday).
India was scheduled to host the 2020 edition of the World Cup, but the tournament was canceled due to 19 epidemics.
Defending champions Spain, who beat Mexico in the final of the 2018 edition, are placed in Group C with Colombia, China and Mexico.
North Korea is the most successful team in tournament history, having won the trophy in 2008 and 2016, while Japan, South Korea and France have won the title once each.
Host Molly Kamita presented the official draw, which was attended by former US women’s national team player and FIFA Women’s World Cup winner Heather O’Reilly, along with former New Zealand national team coach Ricky Herbert. جمائما Yarza, FIFA’s Director of Tournament, and Sarai Bremen, FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer.
