Alexander Zverev was heartbroken as an injury forced him to withdraw from the semi-finals of the French Open 2022 against Rafael Nadal on Friday at Court Philippe Chatterjee. Trying to hit a return shot against Nadal in the second set, Zverev twisted his ankle and screamed in pain before lying on the ground in pain. He was taken out of the court in a wheelchair, before he could hug Nadal and stand up to say goodbye to the crowd.
Former head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri took to Twitter to express his sorrow over Xavier’s injury.
“That’s why the game can make you cry. You’ll be back @AlexZverev,” Shastri tweeted.

“AfaRafaelNadal – Sportsmanship, humility. Just brilliant and respectful,” he wrote.
Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar also praised Nadal’s behavior.
“The humility and thoughtfulness shown by Nadal is what makes him special,” he wrote.

Nadal was leading 7-6 (10/8), 6-6 when Zverev withdrew from the match due to injury and has now reached the final of his 14th French Open. They have won all 13 finals in which they reached first.
They will face Marine Silk / Caspar Road on Sunday as they pursue a record for the 22nd Grand Slam title.
“It’s very difficult and very sad for him. He was playing an incredible tournament and he is a very good teammate on this tour,” Nadal said of Zverev after the match.
“For me, reaching the Roland Garros final is a dream, no doubt about it, but at the same time, for it to end like this … I went there in a small room with Sasha and she cried. The wind was watching. That way – I wish him well, “he said.
