Harshal Patel Hits Fifty As India Beat Northamptonshire By 10 Runs In Tour Match

India will be on a positive note in the upcoming limited overs series against England, who beat Northamptonshire by 10 runs in their second warm-up match on Sunday after a superb bowling performance. India had earlier beaten Derbyshire by seven wickets. After Herschel Patel’s 54 off 36 balls to take India to 149 for eight, the visitors bowled in unison, knocking the county side out for 139 off three balls. Arshdeep Singh, Owais Khan, Yuzwinder Chahal and Herschel took two wickets each as Northamptonshire failed to overcome India’s total.

Earlier, batting first, India got off to a disastrous start by losing Sanjoo Samson in the very first delivery of the match, the successful bowler being captain Joshua Kobe.

One-down batsman Rahul Tripathi also did not last long but India was waiting for more trouble as fast bowler Brandon Glover sent Surya Kumar Yadav back to bowl the visitors at 8/3 in the third over.

Glover took two wickets in a row to take Northamptonshire to the top before a 43-run stand for the fourth wicket solidified the ship. However, Ishan Kishan, after scoring 16 off 20 balls, fell to left-arm spinner Freddie Heldrich and ended the short partnership.

It signaled the arrival of Dinesh Karthik and the experienced campaigners who immediately came down the drain with a few fours and a six.

However, Karthik was dismissed for a quick 34 off 26 balls as India slipped to 72 for five at the start of the 12th over.

Venkatesh Ayyar scored 20 off 22 balls, but it was Herschel who scored the most when India needed runs to make a challenging total. Herschel hit five fours and three sixes in his quick innings.
