Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel The selectors want to include veteran batsman Faf du Plessis in the Proteas squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia. Du Plessis, who does not currently have a central contract with South Africa, recently led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 468 runs during the tournament. The 37-year-old was also overlooked by selectors for last year’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, and is facing a similar situation ahead of a showpiece event in Australia later this year.
“You want all your big names to play and Faf is playing well at the age of 37. He’s still playing well, he’s doing well on the field and he’s got RCB (IP). “I want to see these experienced players in the team. It’s up to them (Cricket South Africa) to work, but I’m definitely a big fan of it.” Am Morkel told the ICC.
However, Morkel was still confident that South Africa would compete in the T20 World Cup, regardless of whether Du Plessis gets a place in the squad.
While suggesting that the Proteas have a world-class bowling line-up, Morkel also thinks batsmen can make a difference.
“I am convinced that there is an attack on them that would be appropriate under these circumstances. Kagiso Rabada. Is a world class actor, Enrich Nortje Performed very well in IPL and Shamsi is a standard spinner. I believe it is a balanced squad and teams are very close in T20 cricket these days.
“From a batting standpoint, you can’t mention Quentin de Cock because he’s been in some great form. Eden Markram There is another standard player, while Bioma finds a way to score runs and rotate strikes even though he is not your traditional T20 player. The big fields (in Australia) where you can hit the pockets and run well, he’s going to be a great player, “Morkel added.
