Parol Chaudhry breaks national record in Sound Running Met in LATwitter
Indian runner Parul Chaudhary broke the national record at the Sound Running Met in Los Angeles as she became the first athlete in the country to complete less than nine minutes in the women’s 3,000m event. Chaudhry, 27, ran the distance at 8:57.19 on Saturday night and finished third. In his latest attempt, Chaudhry, who specializes in staple chase, broke Surya Loganathan’s record of 9: 04.5 seconds, which was set six years ago in New Delhi.
Chaudhry was fifth in the race, but the Indian claimed speed in the last two laps to end the podium.
3000m is a non-Olympic event in which Indians do not often participate.
Chaudhry is also part of the Indian team for the World Championships starting in Oregon, USA later this month. She will compete in the women’s 3,000m staple chase event.
She won a gold medal in the women’s 3,000m staplechase at the Nationals in Chennai last month.
